FRIENDS

It was nice having friends over to chat last night in the backyard that Ben cleaned up for the get-together. It was a pleasant September evening with neighbors and fellow church-goers. Golf lessons in the background. The kids all played together well. We talked about real stuff. People need people. Hopefully more posts like this to come. Hopefully more poetic. Yes, more poetry in my life would be good. Both in and out.

Gardening/Life

We tore out all of our grass and put in planter boxes. On the right side of the lawn we have squash, pumpkin, and zucchini growing. I don't miss the green grass. I love seeing the green stems of the veggies we're attempting to grow. I feel settled and secure. New roof overhead, solar panels to help as much as we can with the environment and to ease climate change. I love the earth. I want to protect her. Life is not perfect, and we have our ups and downs, but we're getting by. We're not under water, but thriving. We're not super fit, but we keep moving forward. We're going to make it.

Sparky Marcus lyrics by James William Hindle (featuring Paula Frazier)

Sparky Marcus by James William Hindle (featuring Paula Frazier)

See how the sun,

Has bleached your hair?

It makes me think,

That you’re barely there.

See how the day,

Can make you blue?

It gets me thinking,

That I don’t know you.

Watchin the way

[I can’t figure it out],

To make you bitter,

To make you cry

I couldn't’ have done

Just one more thing,

Just to let you wait a while,

And not let you in,

Oooo, aaa, aaa, aaaa

I have a feeling

That the day will come,

When all that we have,

Will come undone.

I have the gall,

To ask for anything,

And when you’re down and small, I’ll let you in.

--Happy 21st Wedding Anniversary Ben. Here are the words to the song you enjoy playing on the guitar. I will print them out. I love you.

Log Haven

Log Haven on March 30, 2023

Fresh snow on the ground and trees

Warm inside with low light

Live piano and bass in the background

Pancetta infused shrimp, red wine risotto (with a dollop of ricotta), radicchio, cranberry juice

Snow falling on the lighted trees in the background

Conversation flows

Blustery and snowy drive home

Lemon cream gelato

Full stomach, happy mind, happy birthday

Michelle Kuo -- Education

There is a reason why demagogues despise books and fear a reading public. Books and poetry remind us of what humans share in common: Interior lives that are mysterious and unpredictable, capable of humor and wonder, and thirsty for compassion.”

Democracy

"At the bottom of all tributes paid to democracy is the little man, walking into a little booth, with a little pencil, making a little cross on a little bit of paper.” -- Winston Churchill
